Danny Veigh
Acrylic | Mixed Media on Canvas | 12" x 9" x 1.5" | Private Collection
I was asked to create a portrait of a very special man, Danny Veigh. He was beloved by his family and caregivers.
I was given a video and several photos with the understanding I’d base the piece on this particular image. I loved the expressiveness of his hands and the thoughtful look on his face being illuminated by the window.
I had initially planned to eliminate the bibs and other clothes but eventually realized those items were important to Danny’s story. I used handmade Japanese papers to elevate their status within the piece. He was a valued, loved human being despite his health challenges, and I feel that’s a powerful statement for others (either as individuals or their family members struggling with the same concerns).
The window to the right is representational of Danny actually looking out the unseen window to the left. I added a few little horses as they were a favorite of his.
God rest your soul, Danny... you were a blessing.

I enjoy taking on custom work when I have space and feel inspired. Learning about other’s stories, loved ones, and experiences is an honor and challenge I do not take for granted. Therefore, I do not accept all custom work, but I always value inquiries.
